Jeeeezzzz...........look at all them cyber gizmos!!!!. I just like to grab a
couple of knobs and twist 'em. The SPL box is truly wuckin' funderful if
you want "easy, quick and effective". If you're into the software stuff (and
I'm not knocking it at all.the Voxformer looks really versatile) , Antares
has something call AVox that I played with a while back. Excellent results
with that. You can build harmony BG vocals and it's got this processor
called "throat" which can get just about as wierd as you can imagine.

;o)

I almost never use de-essers. With a good mic and pre at the right
distance I don't get distorted sibilance.

But if you need to de-es, thise puppy is free and works beautifully.

DJ doesn't do free.

It has to cost at least $5000 and only work if it's tied to 12 other pieces
of hardware each cost the price of a small car. They must all have different
sync standards and dither algorithms so there's no chance of getting an output.
hehe

now now john, don't exaggerate you know it's $4995.95 and not the
wildly inflated figure of $5000.00 that you toss about so willingly.

The Voxengo tempo delay (free, for effs sake) is one of the few delays that
actually is well and truly different. I've always wanted to look at their
other kit more closely.

I'm going to start hiring illegal migrant workers to hold multiple
microphones during tracking sessions and train them to adjust the distances
and angles properly as the singer moves around so that I can create a labor
pool of human deessers.

Have you ever seen a group of jingle singers all turn their heads in
sync when they take a breath between lines? 'Course that was before we
had all the cheap labor doing those jobs that Americans won't do any more.

And the cool thing about trying their stuff is that the demos
are no time-limit, simple "dropout-enhanced" version of the real
thing, with no functional limitations, don't try to take over
your computer with the PACE virus or anything like that, and
don't fuck anything up if you decide to uninstall them, and are
all reasonably-priced products if you dcide to buy one.

What a fucking concept, huh?

lol

Definitely the kind of people who I'm happy to have take some of my money.
I'm also interested in those new Samplitude VST plugs from the digitalfishphones
guy. Those Germans seem to know what they're doing with the DSP code.

OK, Neilengo, I give. Which ones should I try? They have so many plugs
it's overwhelming.

Bill... The non-free ones I own are Voxfomer, Gliss EQ, and
Transmodder. Definitely Voxformer - if you try nothing else,
try that one. Download it, and try it on your wife's voice
using the "Nice & Transparent" preset... good starting point.

Out of the free ones, I've tried most of them, but the ones I
kept are:

EssEQ
Span (a tool, really, not an EFX plugin
Tempo Delay
r8Brain
Overtone GEQ

Sarah, Sarah...

Honey, I respect you for trying to fit in with the guys, but you gave
yourself away when you said a "black" J-bass. You specified the color.
Us guys, we don't understand about color. We don't know that a black
bass is slimming. We don't recognize the inherent elegance of black nor
how flexible a black instrument is with any outfit, style of music or
gig. We think a lime green or purple J-bass looks freakin' cool with
anything we're wearing.

BTW, the year I live in it's "bitches", but gentlemen like DJ and me
have a hard time saying that. We would like to say "chicks" or "girls"
but we have a funny feeling that's not OK any more. So sometimes we
don't know what to say but "gals".

We should know by now that nothing we say will be right. Those are the
rules......but we keep forgetting.

Bill, sweetie, I think you seriously underestimate the fashion-consciousness
and yes, even the vanity of your fellow male musicians. Come on, really,
who here would be caught dead on stage with a lime green instrument?
Please.

And be real, dude, this goes for the purely engineering/producing guys, too
.. . . you think they make all those rack-mountable gadgets look so pretty
and colorful because they think women might be shopping for the latest
outboard recording gear? Don't you read Mix magazine and look at all the
pretty studio pictures? That's fashion and style, dear. Those are big
shiny flowers designed to attract all those creative little honeybees with
song to sing. Or buzz. Or a song to sting? :) Heh. Sorry.

Now . . . trying to fit in with the guys?! If I was really trying to do
that, it wouldn't really take much effort on my part. Trust me, I can leave
my socks in the living room, abuse the TV remote, stack dirty dishes in the
sink, and say complete sentences when I belch, etc., with the best of them.
Trying to fit in with the guys . . . feh. What do you think, that I envy
your ability to effortlessly airbrush the toilet area with urine?

Hey, put your gear where your mouth is . . . show us a pic of your guitars
and stuff. I bet it's all real purty to look at.

speaking of airbrushing the toilet seat.....what is it with women. i lift
the seat and get a perfect shot but women seem to have this spray nozzel
that works from underneath spraying the underside of the seat and making
a real mess. Apparently it's not controllable either.

oh, and i wash dishes, mow the lawn, put up my laundry and make pizza. www.kfocus.com/pizza4.jpg.

kidding Sarah ;-)

hehe

Sarah, ma petite cherie, I was not referring to moi when I said guys
have no taste. Au contraire, I am the very height of discrimination,
mais tu comprends I am the exception to the rule, n'est ce pas?

PS, Why does it feel so right to speak French when expressing one's self
as a fashion snob?

PS deux, Actually I have owned an orange bass, a silver guitar, and I
still play a strat with a Floyd and a pointy head stock, so I am just as
fashion lame as the next guy.

In an effort to appear to be be as manly as possible, I have decided to
spray paint all of my gear flat black. Maybe if I can manage to get a bad
flareup of malaria, I can achieve this with urine, plus I will be marking
my turf..

Neil, I agree, Voxformer is very nice. I like the dual compressor and
the squiggly lines (have no idea what they do). It's a one stop shop for
vocals and sounds excellent.
