I'm looking for one of those Sally Field habits that will allow me to
levitate.

I'm still thinking it should have gone to the genus bar at the Apple store.
That's where you can get face to face with the corporation, that is Apple
Inc. The manager at Summer set said to get it in right away and they would
probably replace the MOBO even though it's out of warranty. From experience,
I would think an independently own Apple dealer would have to have a lot
of pull to get Apple to replace a MOBO that is out of warranty.

I'd make an appointment and take it in to the Twelve Oaks Apple store. Other
wise, you could be SOL!

K, long shot time... Rick, any chance you have a dirty power problem either
with your wall volts or the power supply?

i don't know how that would affect only the 3rd slots...an no my power
is fine. all the spensive stuff is on conditioned power. there have
been a few anomalies with this puter besides the ram slot thing. the
firewire connections will drop out on the drives and swapping cables
does nothing. you actually have to switch the front drive to the back
and visa versa before they'll remount and show up on the desktop.

i'll just keep an eye on the ram thing and if and when it does it
again they'll come out and i won't shut the rig down.

the pc's are doing just fine. (2)

What I'm more wondering on the supply side is if enough dirty power is
getting to the mobo if it isn't causing a long term damage effect. That
could come from the wall OR the internal supply if a capacitor/filter
circuit is faulty.
I'm not doubting you have mobo damage, but I'm wondering what could have
created that condition. Power supplies do very odd things when they aren't
right. Got an O scope to look at the power coming off it at the rails?

bad components. it's not like macs don't have hardware problems.
like i've said in another post i ran into a guy at a booth at the
home/garden show this weekend with the same problem. pus there were 3
other macs at the shop with the same problem from just that week. so
i'd say it's not that rare at all.
