I just got a Motif 6 and I can't figure out how to make function as a multi-timbral
MIDI sound source w/ an external sequencer (Digital Performer). Does anyone
have experience w/ the Motif or maybe know of a user group? The manual is
inconclusive. Google hasn't found anythiing useful yet.

HELP!

Thanks!

Put it in SONG mode. That way, it plays dead and gives you 16 channels to
work with. If you're using Cubase or Sonar, you can download the
appropriate bank/program setup and call up the patches by name.

Ah yes, the glories of Yamaha synth operating systems and documentation. I
reviewed the Motif when it first came out. Rarely has such a powerful and
fantastic sounding instrument been so brutally neutered by its interface
designers. And the manuals, I really, honestly wonder if they were translated
from Japanese into Hungarian, then Hungarian to French, and then into English
by a mildly retarded 10 year old.

Good luck, you'll like your soft synths even more after using your Motif
for a while.

Oh yes it does, I agree. It's the only workstation I would even think about
having in my studio.

Do you know of any third party manuals for the Motif? I have an older one,
I think. It's a Motif 6. I downloaded the Yamaha manual and, as you said,
it's pretty opaque.

Dunno, I'd try the forums at motifator. That's probably your best bet.

I hate my Motif. Interface sucks. Sounds are very good.

currently on the market.
