Martin, on a completely different topic, I can't recall if I
asked you this before, but did you ever work on any Little
River Band stuff (another Aussie group, yes?) back in the day?

Not with the band as such, but I certainly recorded with them for some
commercial tracks over the years.

Was just wondering - every now & then one of the radio
stations that I listen to will play one of their songs & I
always notice how good the vocals sound (not just the
performance thereof, but overall sound of the vocal track).
In fact, one day they played a LRB song, followed by "Midnight
Train to Georgia", and I was thinking "DAMN, both those songs
have great-sounding vocal tracks!", then they played another
tune right afterwards that had actually quite a bit of
distortion on the lead vox track... it was not a hard-rocker,
it was a R&B-type tune - can't recall which one, now - and all I
could wonder was how they let that go... was it the first
performance, before they really got things dialed in & it
turned out to be the singers best performance on that song? Was
it a scratch track & the engineer just said f--k it, but they
ended up using it as the real take? In either case, the mic was
definitely a bit too hot going in, because on the louder vocal
parts you'd hear it breaking up. Wish I could remember which
song it is, because I know everyone's heard it. Sure didn't
stop the song from becoming a hit, though.

My cohort here, Ed Stasium engineered Midnight train to Georgia. The gold
record is on the wall in his studio. I never got around to asking him about
his signal chain on that song.......think I will though. I like the LRB too.
